Pirates desperately need to go 6-0 this week vs Reds and Padres but since they are 2-8 vs those teams I don't like their chances.

But a 6-0 week would put them at 57-54 and most likely back in the race. It's possible ... but why is this team so rotten vs the worst teams?

If this is his last game as a Pirate it sure is a memorable one!

He should be in the MVP discussions.

I say extend for 4 years. The FO should show their fans they want to retain the face of the franchise.

I said the same thing last week. Extend him for 4 years. Hope that you get two really solid years out of him (2019, 2020) and then even if he drops off the final two years you are essentially thanking him for a wonderful, Hall of Fame career in Pittsburgh.

Nutting is cheap and won't pay a player over 20 million dollars a season which is what it's going to take to keep Andrew McCutchen around. This team doesn't spend money they tread water under Nutting's watch and like to make you think they spend money but really don't. And when they do spend somewhat decent money in free agency they go out and sign garbage like Daniel Hudson for 11 million for 2 seasons.

I can't imagine why McCutchen would sign an extension not that he's hitting again. These guys want to get near the pennant race.

I would offer him 3 yrs $54M, starting next season (buying out the option season), then adding a team option of $20M for the 4th year (which the Pirates would never pick up). I think $18M per season over the next 3 years is pretty fair for 9 weeks of super production over the past season and a half.

I don't see that happening. It wouldn't surprise me to see the budget cut for next year, with attendance down. NH will have to look long and hard at what higher salary guys to keep. I expect him to be traded in the off-season.

That is a fair starting point for sure. It would be great if it happens but we all know it won't. :'(
