Agreed. I felt too many expectations were put on him last year and the year before. He is still pretty young and was a raw talent. He wasn't and isn't as polished as Cole and Taillon.

This would be a good year for him to do more good than bad in the majors. I expect him to get plenty of bullpen outings. I hope he grows in those outings.

It makes good sense to use him in the pen since his problem is finding the plate, and a secondary problem is guys killing him when he does find it.

This lets him face ML hitters,  they don't get to adjust to him or face him more than once, he doesn't have to hold anything back, and his lack of a good 3rd pitch is basically irrelevant.  Go out.  Throw strikes.    Establish that you CAN succeed in some ML role, then try to build on that.   I like the strategy.  I think it's exactly how he should be handled right now.

If he cannot succeed in this role, he's likely done as a prospect.  Another Arky Caminero, essentially.  Throws real fast, but cannot make it work for him.      Sure, he'll get a few more looks and all the opportunities in the world, but odds are strongly against him if he can't at least do a passable job out of the pen.

That's got to be the goal right now, short-term. Go inning to inning out of the stretch and find some success.

Wait, what? 100? In the first start of spring? Doesn't it usually take some time to build up arm strength?
I know the guys come in a lot more ready to go now thanks to their off season programs, but it's a little worrying that he's going this hard this soon.  I hope he's not trying too hard to make a big impression.

I agree. He might have a big arm, but he's not superman. The human arm wasn't designed to throw a baseball, certainly not at 100 mph, and certainly not without being loose. If he's already loose, I worry about fatigue later in the year. I have very high hopes for Glasnow, but it just doesn't seem smart to me to go out and throw 100 on your first pitch of your first start of spring. That's why they do this for six weeks, and why they only let you go two innings tops in your first start.

To be fair it's still Spring Training practice for the radar gun too. ;)

The one thing I thought was promising from the outing of Glasnow was an interview I saw on the local news. He seemed upbeat about his two inning performance. There was no negative comments. He now has to continue to build on this performance and remain positive.

Noah Syndergaard, Mets, hit 100 mph seven times and twice at 101 mph in his outing.

Personally, I'm not sure that is the greatest news. A guy that can't hit the broadside of a barn dialing it up that fast somewhat concerns me.

The irony is that if he was only throwing 94, people would be mad because he lost his velocity.

Glasnow will be the whipping boy pitcher and Polanco will be the whipping boy position player this year. They were hyped too much to have any failures.
