What was he doing when he wasn't signed? He was a late Spring Training signing. I'm sure the Pirates know what their players are doing in the off season. They probably didn't follow Siegrist. Then when he shows up with no arm, probably raised more questions.

I would have more faith in Siegrist than the guy than the Lithuanian. He sucks.

On Sunday, Huntington clarified that Siegrist cannot become a free agent. Per a clause in Siegrist’s contract, after he did not make the active roster out of spring training, the Pirates had to reach out to the other MLB teams and give them an opportunity to add him to their 25-man roster. If any other team had done so, the Pirates would have had to match that opportunity or let him go to the other club. But no other team bit, so Siegrist was supposed to report to the minors.



“At that point in time he chose not to report to Indianapolis,” Huntington said. “Just does not feel he should pitch in the minor leagues or needs to pitch in the minor leagues at this point.”

He was pretty solid last year. He stumbled a bit as soon as he came up and then struggled a bit at the end of the season (first time in a season that long). In the middle of the season he was very good at the MLB level. He has certainly struggled in the early going, but he has proven that he can be a successful MLB pitcher more recently than Siegrist.

That Neverauskas is better than a banged up Siegrist?  Not sure that's what can be taken away from this situation.  Isn't "none of the above" an option?

Neverauskas had some success previously but i agree he's pretty close to a plane ticket back to indy

What is the plan with Kyle Crick? Will he be a relief pitcher or are the Pirates going to start him in the minors?



Who else has experience to go to the bullpen? A.J. Schugel is still hurt.

I would say Siegrist has as good a chance as any except instead he decided to throw a hissy fit and not show up to his job

To me, any starter at Indy is fair game to come be a reliever this year. There isn't a prospect high enough to worry about having them hit the pen during the season. Even go to Altoona where the only untouchable would be Keller.
