Dickerson is our new Brian Giles. I would extend him now before the price goes too high. Defense has been excellent. Fangraphs report indicates a substantial improvement in his contact rate. Better than Meadows. Better than Polanco. A keeper!

He has another year of arbitration so I would look into it this fall, but he is also 29 so you have to consider the chance of decline during the contract if you offer to many years.

If you plan on locking Dickerson up long term who will be 29 in a few weeks and still fairly young I would definitely try and look at potentially moving and using Austin Meadows as a big trade chip at the deadline this season especially if the Pirates continue to stay in contention and think they can make a huge push come August and September. At some point they need to decide what’s going on with Meadows. He will be 24 next year and you can’t wait around forever for him to develop. With Marte,Polanco, and Dickerson in the outfield now I really believe they can afford to move Meadows if the right deal comes along.

Actually, it wouldn't shock me if it's Polanco who gets moved to make way for Meadows. With no Pirates game last night, I put the Indy game on for a few minutes (MiLB.tv is $25.00 if you buy MLB.tv) and happened to see Jordan Luplow's homer and Meadows' double. I think Meadows will be a decent player. My guess is that the Pirates are starting to run out of patience with Polanco.

Agreed. Why this is a big year for Polanco. They are all left handed too.

I don't think patience is running out with Polanco. Despite the low batting average, he has an OPS+ of 118. It's a short sample, but he's actually having the best offensive season of his career. And he's arguably been a bit unlucky in the process.

I'm not optimistic about Polanco. At least this year he looks adequate in the OF. But his hitting is inconsistent with more bad than good. Which is sad because he seems to have a lot of ability. It's probably just me because we can't get into the minds of the players but Polanco often looks timid to me, both in the OF and at bat. Just seems to lack confidence. But again, I could be way off there.

Polanco's .242 BABIP would indicate that his slash line is sitting a good bit lower than it should.



He's pretty much locked in to that 2nd spot in the order. I'd really like to see him get better in RF, but otherwise, he's doing pretty well. He's tasked with a pivotal role in the lineup and he's doing ok. I would also note that the leadoff spot has been a bit of black hole since Harrison was injured (who was also slumping before the injury).
