Let's talk about that "win" stat. I've been an official scorer around here for a variety of games for years (decades), and I've always thought that when the starter didn't go 5, it was up to the official scorer to assign the win to the pitcher that he thought was most effective (in the judgment of the scorer), among all ensuing pitchers who did not record a save. If that's the case, there's no way the scorer tonight would identify Brault as "most effective." Maybe I don't really know the rule.

Meanwhile ... another BIG win ... and a power display.

That makes 5 of 6 since the Debacle in DC.

And think about tonight's win ... No Harrison, of course, and Dickerson didn't start, and Moran didn't start, and Taillon had to come out after 3 innings.

And still a decisive 11-2 win.

Pretty good display of roster depth.

That’s what I thought, too. It’s kind of a dumb rule, really. Taillon was easily our best pitcher tonight. But, can’t grt the “w” because he didn’t go five (leaving aside the fact that Brault promptly gave up the lead). Taking the rule as written, I think I’d have given it to Feliz. Maybe Crick.

I was curious who would get the W. Taillon was not eligible and Brault was in position to get the win when the Bucs took the lead in the 4th. The scorer had the option to award the W to the most effective reliever. Obviously Brault was the least effective. I think the problem was that each of the other 5 relievers pitched 1 scoreless inning with Santana yielding 2 hits and the other four 1 hit each. None of those 4 distinguished themselves enough from the others to justify picking any one of them over the others so the scorer just went with Brault who was chronologically the pitcher of record. So the least effective reliever got the win but I get it. I'm sure had any one of the other 4 pitched a second scoreless inning he would have been awarded the win.

This Pirates bullpen now I believe has the 3rd lowest ERA in the NL in the last month or so since April 10th. Aside from Kontos having his struggles the bullpen has been about as solid as we could hope for. Hopefully this starting rotation can continue to get more consistent and this team really has a shot to be good.

Great game! Bell homers. Moran PH double to the wall. Max Moroff getting some time and homered.

If Bell gets going and Moran keeps driving the ball, this offense is going to stay good. This is getting interesting

I see kontos K'ed 2 guys last night. That's what we need to see from him. He had only struck out like 4 guys in 15 innings or something prior to that

They are also kind of immune to injury too cause of the depth. I think marte would be the most impactful, followed closely by cervelli, but other than that, I think they could weather injury to any other player.

When the Great 22 returns home; the Bucs record their 22nd win. Pretty ironic.

I always thought it was whatever pitcher finished the fifth inning (even if only recording one out) as long as game was not tied later with score keeper having option to award win to most effective pitcher (but that rarely happens maybe not even once every season).
