There are 119 games left to play and right now the Pirates only have to go 60-59 to win 86 games which you would think worst case scenario would put you right there for 1 of the 2 wildcard spots. So if this team just plays right at or slightly above .500 the rest of the way they are gonna finish with a win total in the mid 80’s which just might be good enough to make the playoffs.


just hope the pitching doesn't finally unravel like it did a few years ago. It's hard to remember that the '16 team was 29-22 at the end of May.

I think we have better depth than we did then,  with Keller, Kingham, and others.

I agree. I kind of thought the 2016 team was winning with smoke and mirrors early on in the year. I think this team has some staying power for a few reasons:



1. Additions of Dickerson and Moran.

2. Depth of the rotation...no true #1, but a lot of guys you can be confident can give you a good start

3. Strong bullpen

4. Strong defensively. Mercer and Moran aren't going to make any highlight reels, but they make the plays they should. So does Harrison. Bell has been decent at first. Polanco has been better. Dickerson doesn't have a lot of range, but he's far from a statue out there. And Marte, when he gets back, is GG caliber.

5. Strong behind the plate...Cervelli is having a great start to the year. And Diaz is as good a backup as we've had in years. I doubt there is a better backup catcher in baseball than him.



This team may not win the division, but I'm thrilled to have been wrong about them. I thought they would easily lose 90 and potentially 100. Being on pace to WIN 100 is exciting! Heck, I'm thinking of buying tickets and coming out for five games this summer.

Yea I don’t think this start is a fluke like that start in 2016. The Pirates had John Jaso playing 1st base everyday in 2016 and they don’t have garbage like that on this roster this year that Clint is playing everyday. This team can hit and I definitely don’t expect then to fade like the team did in 2016.

Doesn't feel like it, but it also doesn't seem like we have the star power to be a superteam either. But I think we'll stay pretty good through the season
