There's a bad decision to have to make when Musgrove comes and another bad decision to make when Marte comes back.

I believe Kontos goes when Musgrove returns. Meadows goes back to AAA when Marte returns. NH was already laying the groundwork for that in the Trib today:

"He still needs to get regular at-bats, be it here or somewhere down the road. If we don't have regular at-bats for him here, it might need to be in Triple-A again. But he's benefiting from this experience."

Of course the real reason is the Super 2 status. But his return to Indy shouldn't last more than a month unless Polanco suddenly becomes a different (i.e., good) player. Pirates need to upgrade over the chronically disappointing Polanco in RF and Meadows appears to be that. So it appears Meadows will return to AAA and (I hope) the clock begins ticking for Polanco.

for all the grief Polanco has been getting (much of it deserved) it's still looking like he should hit over 30 HR, and he leads the team in walks. I fully expect him to have another hot streak.

That said I would be okay with rolling four OFs for a while. That's way preferable to the two we had last year.

Do you think teams will want Polanco via trade? He is still pretty young, he is on pace for 25+ HRs, signed, and has an OPS near .800.

He is having his best season of his career so far. The problem with him in Pittsburgh is that Meadows might be better.

Do you try to trade him or keep him as a 4th Outfielder?

I want to see Corey Dickerson do what's he's doing a bit longer before doing something like that . . .

it is good that Meadows bats left. Getting Dickerson this season certainly has helped. Bucs need to have at least 2 guys with power that hit lefthanded and three is better.

I don't buy into the notion that Polanco is on a pace for 30 HRs. The problem with a streaky hitter is that there is never a consistent pace. This is his 5th year and he's topped 11 HRs ONCE. And that was just 22 HRs. He started this season with 5 HRs in his first 11 games/42 ABs. That was a pace for over 70 HRs. But since then he's hit 3 HRs in 30 games/114 ABs. If he kept up that "pace" the rest of the season it would add another 15 to his 8 for a total of 23, consistent with his career high of 22. But it's hard to assign any pace to him. But given his history and his general lack of production, I don't think we should expect much more than his career high of 22 if even that.

Polanco is starting to remind me of Pedro. He has some awful at bats. He gets to 3-0 with guys on 2nd and 3rd and misses a fastball by a foot and ends up striking out. Like Pedro, he can miss a fastball down the middle of the plate in fast ball counts by a lot. Also, like Pedro, you can see the potential in him too.

The statisticians are now looking at exit velocity, elevation angles and throwing away batting average. Polanco is having his best season stat wise.

Even though he has been in the league for four plus years, he is still pretty young. He is only a year older than Bell, Moran, Osuna, and Moroff. He is younger than Diaz and same age as Frazier, Taillon, Williams, Kingham, Crick, and Kuhl. Most of us are giving those guys time to grow, but is done with Polanco.

This is why, in my opinion, it is a tough decision on what to do with Polanco. He has shown signs of being an All Star type player. Does he deserve more time?

I think he does deserve more time but that time is definitely starting to get shorter now with Meadows ready. Polanco better start figuring to out soon or his days in a Pirates uniform I don’t think are gonna last too much longer.
