The Pirates can't miss on a top 10 pick.

They have more of a fail rate drafting in the top 10.

What does that mean?

Five of their six Top 10 Picks have made it to the majors.  One didn't even sign. So, only one pick in their Top 10 failed to make it (Appel).

Joey Bart from Georgia Tech. He might go #1. The Tigers haven't announced it yet. The Tigers narrowed it down to three players. If they don't take Bart, many think he will go #2 overall.

Some dude on P2 claims to have insider info that the Pirates have a deal for a guy that's in the 25-40 range.

If so, I hope the team drafting ninth selects him first.

Draft the best dang player you can.

They do have the 35th overall pick too. Money isn't an issue anymore. It's all slotted. Does this P2 guy have a name? What is the P2 dude's name?

It's a commenter:

"Read my lips. Pirates will draft a player not profiled here. He will be a huge stretch but news will come out that other teams had him high as well. My sources say he’s in the 25-40 group by most pundits. Promised his family I’d keep it secret. It’s a done deal."

The Pirates went with a consensus guy last year, they had been all over the map the prior three years. I don't know what to gleam from any of this as Tucker hasn't broken out yet, Craig and Newman look like extremely low ceiling MLB players at best, but they do have some nice prospects from the recent prep class.

I think the Pirates trust their board, and they have gone against the consensus before, but I doubt they do that with the #10 pick.

Rocker fits that description and I've read something somewhere about our interest early in the year (sorry can't find it). He seems to fall right at the end of the first round, or early second, which fits with the description above. Given that we have 3 of the top 51 picks, it wouldn't surprise me if we saved a little money with the first pick if we really liked the kid.

Wilbur (who used to post here once and awhile but is does prospect analysis) likes:

Jarred Kelenic a prep CF from Wisconsin and Carter Stewart a prep pitcher from Florida.

Another middle first round name that has cropped up only with us at #10 is Grayson Rodriguez -- really big framed pitcher from Texas (6'5" 230). I like his frame and that he still seems to have plenty of upside. I always worry about high school pitchers that seem too polished.

All the lists seem to have us taking a prep player.

I still love the draft. I think we'll do some budgeting and have some surprises this year. I loved the Bolton pick and the bit of risk we took with him last year and I'm probably more interested in what we do at #36 and #51.

There have been more flops in this organization in Round 1 than anything. Do I have to give you the names?
