Whew.  We really dodged a couple of bullets with Harper and Machado.

We also dodged a couple of smaller bullets with Donaldson and Moustakas.  And Mike Brantley.  And Cutch, and AJ Pollack and Eovoldi and Happ, and Ground Chuck and Patrick Corbin and Ottavino and...

FO is like Neo from the Matrix dodging all these bullets.  Would be a great meme. Nutting in slow motion, twisting and dodging bullets named Harper, Machado, Donaldson, Corbin etc..

Like Nutting said, we are taking advantage of the opportunity to NOT make a move.    Lets go 2019!

Tying up 25% of your payroll on one player leaves everyone else in the clubhouse jealous. Definitely dodged some major bullets.

Cervelli will come in at 15% and plays about 60% of games.  Would that cause animosity?    He makes ~$115k per game (at 100 games played).

If he played 152/162 games instead of 100 (other positions)  that would equate to a 17.48 Million or 22.5% of a 77 million payroll.

We may want to get him out of here to keep the clubhouse on an even keel.

Interesting. Buster Posey and Russ Martin are huge albatross contracts.

Molina and Grandal average 131 games played per season over last 3 years. Cervelli 95 games.

So Molina is making about 152k per game. Grandal is making 122k per game. Cervelli 115K

does it really lead to jealousy though? Players that are locked into low salaries may not be jealous at all. They may be mad about the system that underpays them. The younger players may look forward to being good enough to get big money later.

Pirates management thinks it is an issue but it comes across as more of an excuse to me.

Just another in a long list of excuses for keeping a low payroll. I don't think anyone believes this one. I think they should hire Antonio Brown as a special assistant for promoting clubhouse unity. :)
