Tell me Hunter Pense covering right field at PNC would’nt be a hoot!

Anyway - I like the idea of giving Bell time in the OF.

Get Martin up now this is one of the reasons you have a minor league system. Get Martin up now and get him in the line up. Geez we don't need to rent another awful over the hill outfielder.

According to MLBTRs Martin is not coming up. Looks like they will rely on Melky, JB, and Pablo as well as working Moran and Newman in the OF too.

Martin was great at AA last year (.325) but struggled mightily at AAA (.211). At this point, after his impressive September last year, I think Reyes is ahead of Martin in the pecking order. If Martin was recalled he should play everyday instead of sitting. And based on his lack of success vs AAA pitchers last year, it's hard to justify recalling him and plugging him into LF. I'm not a big fan of this front office, but I have no issue with this decision. And with Lyles being added today, they don't have to option a pitcher. And as bad as the BP has been, they probably need everyone.

We have half dozen or more on this team right now batting under .200, it's a little early to decide he can't hit AAA, I'd about guarantee you he'll hit AAA pitchers.

But (and sorry for stating the obvious) what's wrong with what JB Shuck has done so far?

I never said he can't hit AAA pitching. Good grief. I certainly expect him to. But at this point in his young career, he has yet to accomplish that. Accordingly, I don't expect him to get a promotion until he does.

The Marlins who sighed with the Reds.  Gonzalez would have costs a bit more but he definitely was not out of the Pirates price range. These are a few names they should have went after not Melky or Shuck

Those guys all have to be willing to come to Pittsburgh and take a minor league deal. Pence did that for Texas. Probably because he thought he'd get to the majors quickly with their situation and he was right. He would have looked at Pittsburgh and saw Dickerson, Marte, and Chisenhall/Polanco. He would have assumed there would have been much of a chance.

I mean, they have those top three. They knew Polanco would be out a month so they were able to get Chisenhall who must have been ok with playing and then having that playing time reduced when Polanco returned. They got Cabrera who could be another backup to those top three and be a solid pinch hitter. I think they are doing about what they can with Chisenhall getting hurt and now Dickerson out also.

He's done a fine job. Thank you for reminding us.
