There is no more team control. He’s a full blown FA at year’s end.



Answering my own question - I think I’d throw out 2/$15 with a 3rd year team option for $9M. If he is pitching well, the 3rd year is cheap.



If he keeps performing, the price only goes up from here. That said, it’s a really small sample size to commit (Pirate) big money on.

If he keeps pitching well, my guess he gets a contract similar like Happ received when he left the Bucs in 2015. It was like 3 years for 34 million dollars.

Yeah. I agree. If he keeps it up all year, that's probably the cost for him going forward.



My lower offer thought above is based on offering it to him now when the sample is still small and so there is a fair risk to the team that it's not some change that will stick.

I like what Lyles is doing (who wouldn't?) but I'm not sure I'm on the "just sign him" train quite yet.
