Excellent decision by Clint and this management team to start Feliz in the opener. I hate this coaching staff and this incompitent front office and their we don’t give a [poop] attitude. This is totally inexcusable.

So it's an odd strategy to use an opener to prevent having Kingham or Brault pitching in the 1st inning if those are the guys who will pitch in the 1st inning anyway after the Bucs are already trailing. Might as well just start Kingham and Brault. It's not as if Hurdle is using reliable relievers as his openers. He's using the last guys in the pen, the ones most likely to fail.    Hurdle sucks and he is an idiot nothing he says afterwards will justify starting Feliz none at all. Call up Keller or go find some damn pitching cause this is a complete embarrassment.

Freddy, I edited a word in your prior post but I agree with you. I don't follow Tampa closely but I was under the impression when they had success with openers that they used reliable pitchers who could be expected to be effective for 2-3 innings. Hurdle uses guys who should not be pitching in anything but mop up time and then puts in the guys he didn't want to start (Kingham/Brault) in the 1st inning anyway, and when they're already losing. It's as if he's saying he won't start Kingham or Brault because they're so bad but he will use them in the 1st after the opponent has already been spotted a lead of several runs.

It’s the Front Office job to get CH some pitching. They have done nothing. The Pirates are now close to a -50 run differential. They are winning with smoke and mirrors.

As I said in another post either sign Keuchel or trade an OF and get some friggin pitching

I agree with him about how sad it is to look out at what appears to be a nearly empty PNC Park.

That said, within the same week, the Pirates, in two games,  will have used a less than stellar relief pitcher to open a ball game when the team is supposedly trying to win a playoff spot.  While we all know that neither of the relievers is really expected to pitch more than 2 innings, and then only if everything goes right, the players, even more than the fans, realize that ownership must not really believe in this team because they are silent and absent in addressing the situation.

I know that the AAA roster is thin on starters who could pitch in the majors.  I know that many teams are 1 or more starting pitchers shy and that many are similarly looking for help.  I also recognize that few teams are ready to consider themselves sellers.  My response --- So What!

Nutting needs to give management the authority to go get help, and to do so now.  It will cost money, but the team will need to consider taking on a contract to get some real innings.  And, when (if) Tallion and Williams return (assuming that none of Archer, Musgrove or Lyles is injured or underperforms), the worst performing starter can go to the pen where the team also desperately needs help.

The current situation is more embarrassing and harmful to the team than having only 2 OF'ers on the roster.  In March, would any of us expected to hear --- and now starting for your Pittsburgh Pirates --- Michael (where is the plate) Feliz.

PNC is empty, but ownership is morally bankrupt and continues to cheat (and blame) Pittsburgh's fans.

I’m not at the game and not able to watch.  But this pitching situation is inexcusable.  I’ve been ticked off since the hot stove between 2015/16.  This owner has no business have membership in a legal monopoly.  He prints money.  He’s parlayed a tiny investment in McClachy’s partnership into a Billion $+ asset. MLB needs to intervine.  I’m totally ticked off right now.

Your post is right on the bark. I just hate to see baseball die in Pittsburgh because of one utterly selfish person.

I disagree it is because of one utterly selfish person. He has a lot of collaborators and yes men (Frank, Neal, members of the board) etc.

Huh, not like anyone could have predicted this. Except for, you know, literally all of the fans they haven’t yet driven away.

I saw who was opening and didn't even tune in.  Had a feeling something was bound to happen early.  Feliz and Brault to open the game.  That is a loss regardless who we are playing.  Neither should be in the majors.

I agree, Gio would have been a no brainer.  I think he is either getting less or equal to what Lyles is getting.  I hope they don't stretch Liriano out to return to the starting rotation.  He is very successful in his role now.

Thank you Dodgers, may we have another.
