There are still 70 games left this season which is plenty of time for one team to get red hot and take control of one of these wildcard spots. Not saying that team will be the Pirates but they did win 11 in a row last July right around this time. So like I said you just never know how things are going to work out. There is still a lot of baseball left in this season and you just gotta play it out and see what happens.
You are so right about last season and the winning streak, but this season they are without Taillon, and Williams is not performing like he did last season. In the second half of last season those two pitchers were both outstanding. You could almost count on wins each time their turn came around in the rotation.

I agree it’s gonna be tough to do with Taillon being injured still and Williams not being as good as last season. But we’ll see how things go. These next 10 games with both the Cards and Phillies is a good opportunity for the Pirates. They are chasing both those teams and are only 2-3 games behind both and teams like the Brewers and Phillies this week are playing the Dodgers and Braves so if the Pirates handle their business in St Louis they should be able to pick up a few games in the wildcard standings and get back to around and hopefully eventually over the .500 mark.

It was going to be very difficult for Pittsburgh to assume Williams could come close to duplicating that second half of the year. I don't think anyone could have thought that.
