was this totally Kela's choice?

I bet the Bucs had to serve at least one suspension (I don't know how appeals figured in).

I also read that the Bucs asked MLB to stagger the suspensions and it agreed to do so (to not have Crick and Kela suspended at same time.

Just noticed that Kela has not pitched since September 1st. There have been a few pitchers added to the roster since then, but it appears they are not going to use him unless it is a last resort. I will be shocked if Kela is with the team whenever ST begins in February.

I'm pretty confused by this. It seems that Kela has the talent to be a fairly good trade asset for us. If so, we need to "show" that talent with a few September appearances. I don't think he is the kind of guy you just dump. But it looks like that's the intent.

Anybody know the back story on him? I know a few of the issues that have come up, but really what's the deal?

someone said he was on paternity list (which is 3 days) and someone else said they may know what they have in him and want to look at others.

I wondered about his health since he was shut down last September.

If he can't pitch 2 days in a row (at least once in awhile) no matter how effective he is, he would be a drain on the bullpen.

I'm hoping he can pitch at least 60 games next year and 60 innings. He has been effective overall when he has pitched.

Hope this is right? But who knows. He seems to be very competitive and it's difficult for many of Polynesian ancestry to learn to calm their tempers. But so many are such great athletes.

My wife is from Hawaii and has a few slices of several different ancestral blood lines, including Hawaiian. My youngest son's middle name is Keone, which is John in Hawaiian. So we all pull for Kela for reasons beyond being a Buc.

Kela is going into His Arb 3 year, sitting on a current $3M+ contact. This is exactly the type of player the Pirates never keep. I don’t think there is even a 1% chance he’s with the Pirates next season.

The guy has a lot of talent but carries questions. If the Pirates aren’t show casing him it must be because he’s not 100% and they don’t want to risk him or see bad results. The problem is, his value without playing is going to be near zero.

In the end, this will be another player that actually has talent that walks away from the Pirates for nothing.
