This sadly made me laugh.  That still p*sses me off.  NH was looking for Lux in that LAD deal for Vasquez, when May and a catching prospect would have helped us more.

Do we know that for sure?

I don’t blame NH for the high asking price for Vazquez. Vazquez like Chapman before him was the most dominating reliever in baseball. Plus he had 4 years on control at team friendly cost. Look at what the Yankees got from the Cubs for Chapman.

Unfortunately the Dodgers value their prospects too high and are tough to get a deal done with.

I agree that we did not need Lux given our depth at 2B and SS.

However if we only received May and Ruiz I think a lot of Pirate fans would have been upset. I think Vazquez was worth more.

Who could have predicted that he would be out of baseball and a disgrace a month later

See, I remember hearing that May and Ruiz (maybe +1) was actually NH's offer and LA turned him down. I'm pretty sure the Lux thing came about on speculation too.

I saw this on ESPN listing a blockbuster move for all 30 teams:

Pittsburgh Pirates trade OF Starling Marte, RHP Chris Archer and RHP Keone Kela to the New York Mets for 1B/LF Dominic Smith, LHP David Peterson and RHP Stephen Nogosek. I honestly don't know enough about the Mets to know if that is a fair trade. The write up for what the pirates are getting didn't woo me.

As noted earlier in this thread by P Mike - the identified return from the Mets is a bit underwhelming.

About the only advantage to the Pirates in making a trade like this is that it would clear out nearly all of the team's salary obligations (cue in Nutting smiles). That said, if the Bucs are making trades, they need to obtain as much talent as possible in return.

Hoping that BC can obtain a good (make that a great) return for Marte at the winter meetings. Although there is not a lot of CF talent on the free agent market, the premium free agents appear to be finding new landing spots earlier this off-season. Don't want to see the Bucs hang on to Marte for too long where his potential suitors start to dry up.

I think this trade makes including Archer a salary dump. Dominic Smith can't play left in PNC. So the Bucs would need to trade Bell too (or try and flip Smith to someone). To me, Marte is worth at least 2 of these 3 Mets prospects.

Here is where BC and his guy Sanders need to look at the 2 pitchers. Peterson is the #2 pitching prospect and #7 overall. The other 2 are not rated among the top 30 with Smith no longer a prospect. But from BBR he looks like less than adequate LF especially in PNC and he does not seem to have the big time pop in his bat. But at 24 maybe the new regime in the Burgh can help him out.

SD might have the most intriguing possibilities here for Marte.

So, I just read on the Atlantic a piece by Jim Bowden saying a move or two each team should make. He posed on for everyone, but two for the Bucs. I love one idea, but hate the other.

Marte to the Reds for Mahle, Winker and India

Bell to the Yanks for Andujar, Voit and Contreras

The problem if we do both of these, we won't, there isn't a catcher or a catching prospect among either deal. And we don't get a good pitcher for the rotation.
