Which Reynolds is the real McCoy 2019 or 2020? They are only prospects, but are Cruz, Priester, Malone and Gonzales future high end pieces? This offseason is very important in my opinion. I think initially there are going to be added some new people under Cherington. His late arrival as GM last year made it difficult to hire some other people who were already under contract with other teams. I may be one of the few fans, but I expect a very interesting offseason.

Completely agree on the Ben comment.  He didn't come to fail.  Hardly anyone does.  Most people want to do well on their jobs and career.  Only a small percentage come for the work or paycheck alone.  Doing poorly puts a paycheck at risk....unless you're a politican, weatherman, or PennDOT executive.

I anticipate that, like all who have preceded him, BC will do as well as BOB will allow for.

Conclusion- Don't plan on buying WS tickets.  Season tickets could be within reason.  Game tickets might become practical.

I'm with holding a opinion on Cherington until I see what he does with Shelton after the season.  I really believe he needs to go, I've seen absolutely nothing from him that makes me think he knows how to put the best team on the field.  He (Shelton) doesn't seem to understand the concept of you're trying to win as many games as possible. Can he admit he made a mistake and correct it ASAP!

I'm not making excuses for ShelledaTon. I allow some possibility that, as a LMG OJT manager, it very well could be that he's told who to play and in what slot.

The Pirates are known to be highly reliant on analytics. It's probably bad analytics, but they still rely on them. For all I know, the computer spits out a lineup card and gets handed to him, or he gets out of his chair to go get it.

The Tigers' job is open. We can hope that the Pirates allow him to break his contract and go for that.

Seeing as no qualified MLB manager is likely to set foot in the Pirates dugout, we're probably stuck with the guy for a while.

41 years since our last world championship.

Since then, 2,973 and 3,361 for a .469 "Winning" Percentage through yesterday's game.

12 winning seasons. Most came before 1993, as we know.

They don't typically come "one off." As with probably most other franchises, they come in "periods." I count three such periods:

1980 to 1983. Likely had some leftover and reputational benefits from the championship year and good years before it.

1990 to 1992. We could extend it from 1988 to 1992 if you allow for one losing season in there. That would be the Killer B's era.

2013 to 2015, which seems to me as a long time ago, but wasn't. The McCutchen and crew era.

Four seasons with 100 or more losses, if one was to extrapolate the current season. Lately, that's roughly every ten seasons. (01, 10, 20.)

That just goes to show that it doesn't take long to go from the better-than-average to bad.

Aside from the 20 year period of futility- that's Pirates centric- how much of this is much different from other clubs, I don't know.

I agree with many that we'll return to decent regular seasons within reasonable time, but that's only if BOB is willing to pay the price that never goes down. I don't expect us to get the dirty deed done after that. They've exceeded my expectations back in 2013, and I'm the first to admit it. Here's to hoping that they do even better the next time.

What would be your definition of doing better?

I'm going to keep renewing my season tix as long as I can afford them. I figure it this way:

A. I'll be rewarded for hanging in there if they ever somehow pull off some magic.

B. They end up leaving in the next 15-25 years, and I'm still alive. I get to see the last game the Pirates ever play in Pittsburgh. I'll surely be ready to die by that time. No point in going on then.

Obviously a true and loyal fan. As, for me, the most I would do is to get the major league package whichI stopped two years ago

Naw, my kid asked me to keep the tickets. They get a lot of use even if I can't go to the games, primarily my nephews.

Better than 2013 isn't hard to figure out.

It would be to go get beyond the second round of the playoffs.

Ideally, I would like to see a team that gets to the NLCS, as has been written.

It would be nice to finally win the division as well, but that's not necessary to get to a LCS.
