The chances aren't good that Polanco can learn anything that's related to baseball.  That ship has sailed, if it was ever moored at the dock in the first place.
You're probably right but I think it's the last resort before releasing him. Give him the maximum rehab assignment just to see if it would do any good. They've put up with him this long so I think they would at least try that before pulling the plug. Just seems suspiciously convenient to me that on the day the minor leagues get under way with no further delay, Polanco goes on the DL with an undisclosed injury.

You're a better person than I am.  He'd have been gone two years ago if it were up to me.
Oh, I'd have cut him loose long ago. I'm looking at it from the perspective of how the Pirates operate and what they are most likely to do. They are clearly hoping against hope that Polanco somehow, some way becomes productive despite all evidence to the contrary. If they were serious about finally releasing him I don't think they would forego the only other avenue available, which is a rehab assignment to get him as many ABs there as possible for one last desperate hope that he responds.

"Desperate hope" being the key words.

Owen Tew. He struggles at the plate. He always seems to be behind in the count.

not a good sign for Will Craig. Maybe he will get hot at Indy and show he has at least a platoon bat.
