Tucker Must Be Hurt

I think the Pirates don't see Tucker as a piece of their future. Last year in a meaningless 60 game mini-season in which the Pirates were never competitive and had nothing to lose, Tucker never played SS. Instead, the Pirates used that time as a tryout for Gonzalez as the everyday SS while Tucker tried to learn a new position in the OF despite not even being able to hit well enough to play a middle infield position.

The Pirates played 513 innings last year. Tucker played 0 innings at SS, 3 at 2B and 248 in the OF. This year they brought him up for 2 weeks and let him start only 3 games. That is how they would treat a Max Moroff type AAAA, last player on the bench guy rather than a former #1 pick being counted on for the future. It looks like the handwriting's on the wall for Tucker.

It seems like the Bucs are trying to make Tucker one of those "versatile" types of players they seem to love. 2020 was a wasted season for Tucker trying to learn another position and also try to concentrate on hitting in MLB. How does that speak about moving Cruz off SS?

Tucker has been given many chances to show he can hit ML pitching. His career average is .210. He has shown no ability to hit ML pitching it's time to give Cruz a shot. We simply don't have any other options. What could it hurt. He has power, something that none of our other options have so even if he hits about the same he is a threat to hit a the ball out that will result in rbi's. What are we waiting on, Newman's hitting .202, Gonzalez's hitting .224 and both have virtually no homers so what on earth are we waiting on. Does anyone really believe Newman is going to start hitting. Get real it's time to move on.

I’d have no problem giving Cruz a shot as well up in the Majors moving forward here these last few months of the season. As for Tucker the Pirates have no plans for him to be apart of their future at all. As someone earlier mentioned if you can’t make the big club on one of the worst rosters in baseball that says a lot. Tucker seems like a good kid with a good attitude who brings a lot of energy but that only gets you so far if you don’t have the skill set to compete at the Major League level consistently. At this point anybody on here has as good or even possibly a better chance of getting a date with Venessa Hudgens then Tucker does of being the Pirates shortstop of the future.

I think odds are low of Tucker making it but want to give him this season to show it. After this season he may be somebody else's Alford or Fowler.

Note from Jason Mackey saying that Tucker has a type of bronchitis issue. Should return to lineup very soon.
