A telling sign that Keller is making little progress is that even in his better efforts he has a lot of base runners. Since his recall in August he has never allowed fewer hits than innings and combines hits and walks to always seem to be in trouble.

Aug 1 5.0 IP 8 hits 0 BB

Aug 7 5.0 IP 7 hits 4 BB

Aug 14 4.1 IP 9 hits 1 BB

Aug 20 5.0 IP 6 hits 1 BB

Aug 26 5.1 IP 6 hits 3 BB

Sept 2 6.0 IP 6 hits 0 BB

Sept 8 5.0 IP 10 hits 1 BB

if I counted right, Keller allowed 9 singles, a double and a walk in 5 innings. One of his better starts.

Yet again, the Bucs fail to complete a sweep. Better days lie ahead. They have to. It’s hard to imagine it being worse.

they've gone this long, might as well not have one this season.

So frustrating with Keller. Even more frustrating, I'm going to the game Saturday and effing Crowe is pitching again. It's like the 5th or 6th time I've seen him start.

A dubious feat that, unfortunately, is deserved. Maybe one year the Bucs will balance out their karma by sweeping every series.

Yes, the Pirates were "encouraged" by that performance. Only 10 hits, 1 walk and 4 runs in 5 whole innings! Yippee!!!

The PG reported:

“He stayed strong with the approach, executed pitches and got himself out of those innings,” Shelton said of Keller.”

Ah, yes, once again that brilliant execution. ::)

Apparently, Shelton was referring to the 2 innings in which runs weren't scored against Keller. It was encouraging that he was only unable to get himself out of 3 innings considering that he pitched 5.

I'm so encouraged that I think the Pirates could have another Kershaw on their hands. (Assuming, of course, that Keller could learn to play the fiddle like Doug Kershaw.) Maybe it's time he got on with his life's work since pitching ain't it. ;)
