Some thoughts from the game tonight:

1. I think I was the only one who actually called "Posey rule!" and was dang proud of myself when the umps went to the headsets, and I was explaining to everyone around me what was going on. I felt like baseball guru Surg.

2. The sounds of the game are unreal that close to home plate. That being said, great experience sitting in the home plate club seats, but I'd rather sit higher. Much better perspective.

3. The pregame ceremony was so well done, and so touching. The family members of those who perished on Flight 93 out on the field really hit me in the feels. Kudos to both teams players going out and shaking their hands, hugging them, talking with them.

4. Nice to see the Pirates take advantage of another teams wildness and sloppiness. I think when they had 9 runs posted the Pirates at that point only had 4 or 5 hits.

5. The play at the plate with Hayes, where Newman ended up being thrown out was quite bizarre, and I didn't really understand what the heck had happened until I got home and saw the replay.

6. I'm glad I didn't take any signs with me, I had the thought of taking signs saying things like "Tattoo Vampire is my 1st AB walk up song" "Hello OBN" shout outs to my VFW and American Legion posts, and a Yoshi sign. It would have been a major PITA with how much action there was in this game.

7. I swear Shelton was staring down at me as if to say, "tough shite buddy" when I saw Miller come on in the 8th because I was yelling, "Isn't Stratton AND Bednar available?"

8. Once Crowe slows down, he falls to pieces. It was so perceptible. I was about to lose my mind on the sequence when he went 3-2 on Gray, after walking him the first time up. He's so easily distracted. But his pitches at times have some wicked movement, and I think if they can fix his head, he'll be a solid starter.

9. The guy that sat in front of me never said a word, but kept trying to stare me down because I had the Yoshi doll. So I joked around with some people around me about how magical this Yoshi doll was, and did a Q and A with myself in Phineas and Ferb fashion, "Hey, don't you think you're a little old to be carrying a doll?" "Why yes, yes I am a little old to be carrying a doll." He finally quit staring at me.

10. There really was nothing special about the food in the home plate club. I read so many reviews of people who have frequented it over the years in the various names (Lexus Club, Hyundai Club, etc.) who said it really went downhill and isn't at the level one would expect for those kinds of seats. Something about how the food went downhill when a different vendor took over. It wasn't horrible, but it was no better than what you could get at Eat N Park. However, the snacks and pop and ice cream available to take as you wish down by the seats was a nice feature, and they had those huge quarter pound hot dogs.

11. The Nationals didn't seem to have a lot of spark, maybe it's a carryover from how many vets they had before a good chunk of them got sent out, very business like. They seemed like robots out there.

The Nats announcers immediately said Tsutsugo should be called safe at the plate and predicted the call would be reviewed and reversed. And they are blatant homers! They talk about every Nat as if he belongs in the HOF. And their color guy F. P. Santangelo, who had a very modest career as a utility guy, is very snarky. But even he said their catcher can't block the path to the plate that way.

Need to go 11-9 in these last 20 games to avoid losing 100. It looks like at least for the moment my prediction of 55-107 on the prediction thread is in some serious danger. It just goes to show you how hard it is to even lose 110 games in a season. As bad as this Pirates team has been at times this year they will in all likelihood at least avoid doing that.

They go on a 10 game road trip, and the way they have played on the road, I wouldn't be any bit surprised if they lost all 10, let alone won 5 or 6.
