1951 does not count because it was not a real post-season playoff as we see now.  It was simply a 3 game series to determine the winner of the NL pennant due to a tie in NL standings at the end of the season.  If you want to be a purist Doc then my statement above is invalid. 



By the way, I was only 3 yrs old and still learning what baseball was all about and I still had my baby teeth. My dad was jumping for joy after Thompson's "Shot Heard Around the World"!

It's ironic that "The Shot Heard 'Round The World" only got them into the WS which they proceeded to lose in 6 games with hero Thomson landing with a thud hitting .238 with no HRs and 2 RBIs in the series. Imagine is he had won the series with a walk off 7th game HR and hit .320 with 2 HRs in the series. I guess that would have been the shot heard round the universe!

it come out years later that the Giants cheated. The Astros are stained forever but Giants got away with it for 50 years.
