This one has me scratching my head. It's not like we have a replacement

we have 2 on minor league roster now, Michael Perez (just think he might improve and hit 185 next year) and signed Jamie Ritchie today.

Certainly someone else like these guys will be signed too.

Kinda wondering how this works into BC's comment about paying attention to this year's MLB team and making it better.

Looking like another year in the race to that 3rd or 4th draft pick. BC loves him some high-end draft picks.

Help me trust our new talent evaluators because I'm not seeing this trade.

At this point, what diff does it make?

Thompson had a great game against the Nationals in June 2021. 11k's in 6 innings. Was watching the highlights, he mixes his pitches well. Cutter, curve, elevates the fastball. Seems like a pitcher, not a thrower. He could be a solid 3.

Hope he has many games like the Nationals game in the immediate future for our Bucs. Hoping for the best there. The prize in the deal is the 22 year old pitcher, electric stuff per reports.

I am on the fence with this trade. I liked Stallings as a veteran catcher to tutor our young pitchers, and he is a gold glove catcher. The players the Bucs received all appear to have potential, but will they develop into major league players? The one thing which I keep thinking about regarding the trade is the upcoming CBA. Will the arbitration or free agency years change for players ? If so Stallings would become a free agent sooner than the 3 years as now under the current CBA. We as fans don’t know how the current labor negotiations are going, but the owners may be getting updates on the discussions, and if so the Pirates may have felt they only had Stallings for possibly two years instead of three so they pulled the trigger on this trade. Whatever the reason I sure enjoyed Stallings time in Pittsburgh.

I tried to delete 1 of 2 duplicate posts by Mainebucs and they both disappeared. This was the post.

Stallings was a gamer.

If I were Stallings, the two worst aspects of this trade for him.

1) The Marlins play in a lousy stadium.

2) The Marlins are one of the few teams that may also draw less fans than the Pirates on many nights.

However, it also appears that the Marlins are tying to compete.

Winning has a way of washing away some of the warts.

It seems that BC received a good return for Stalling

I am surprised however that he was traded

I also thought he would be key to developing some of the young pitchers and also help in acclimating Davis to the Majors when that time comes. I hope the Pirates promote Endy Rodriguez and don’t dumpster dive for a warm body
