Contreras, Ortiz, and Priester ....

Post by NewMexicoLobo »

Have obviously pitched below expectation. And now with how Keller collapsed after the all-star break .....

I can't escape the feeling that our pitching coach is performing below expectation also.

Priester is only 22, a little early to quit on him.

Contreras has pitched well since getting back into live action, pitching back in Indy.

Keller has had 3 decent starts in a row. I think he hit a wall TBH, he's in uncharted waters. He pitched 159 innings total for 2022, he's at 155.2 for 2023 already. I've never been convinced of him being a top tier ace, but he's solid when he's on, and it appears he's back to being on.

Ortiz is the only one not showing any signs of success. He even had one outing of 1.1 IP where he gave up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, without surrendering a hit. He had back to back encouraging starts July 29 and August 12, but was lit up on Friday.

Ortiz has been added to the taxi squad. I assume he will pitch tomorrow afternoon against the Cards. Hope we see the fast ball which he displayed last September.
