Draft Signings

Post by MaineBucs »

The Pirate's website is reporting that the Bucs have signed 3 of their 21 draft picks:

# 2 - Mitch Jebb for $1,650,000 which is $396,000 below the slot value of #2,045,900.

# 4 - Carlson Reed for $600,000 which is $46,900 below the slot value of $646,900.

#5 - Patrick Reilly for the slot value of $455,600.

Three picks and the Bucs are about $445,000 below slot value. Wonder where (or if) they are going to commit these savings, as most of the folks they drafted are college seniors who have nowhere else to go.

the only one I can think of is the power hitting firs baseman who is committed to Miami. I think he was picked in Round 17 or so.

Yes big bag of cash for the recruit is forthcoming. Do the Pirates have to spend all the draft money or can it be rolled over ?

The Pirates 10th round pick, Landon Tomkins, a RH relief pitcher out of Louisiana Tech has signed for $15,000. The slot value was $171,200.

While the Bucs still need to sign 15 draftees, something doesn't feel right here. Either Tomkins had a lot of traffic tickets he had to pay immediately, or the Bucs committed to a significant sign-ability and overdraft pick (minor league fodder who won't survive a season of rookie ball).

"3rd-rder Garret Forrester signs w/ Pirates for $775k (pick 73 value = $990,300). 1B, good swing decisions, untapped power potential, has strong arm & will get shot at playing 3B." - Callis

Paul Skenes is in Pittsburgh. Saw a photo he was at the Clemente Museum. Jason Mackey is reporting his signing will be very soon. I would guess later this afternoon.
