Another Pitcher Acquired

Post by fjk090852-7 »

It is being reported that the Pirates have an agreement with Jandel Gustave a right handed pitcher. The deal is pending a physical. This is the fourth pitcher they have acquired since the season began in late July. Just read that the deal they had with Henderson Alvarez has fallen through.

What you really mean is that Henderson Alvarez came to his senses.

So far no other team has signed him. I wonder if he didn’t pass his physical. I am sure something like that remains confidential between the team and the player.

I doubt we'll ever know the true story but, in this case, I'm not sure it really matters. As bad as the Pirates staff is, it didn't look like he would've been much of a help.

Alvarez was nothing more than another typical Pirate has-been reclamation candidate.

Is he a league minimum signing?

So would he be considered an upgrade simply because BC signed him, or was his signing just a waste of time because he's just like all the other pitchers on the staff? I'm trying to determine if BC should get credit for trying to improve the club when actually Alvarez's signing wouldn't really have been an improvement.

I think Alvarez had to pay the Pirates to sign him.

This was clearly just another case of throwing enough crap against the wall to see what sticks.

This is where we are at... an upgrade for a pitcher that hasn't pitched in MLB since 2017 and its 2020.
