Will Craig to Be Brought Up

Post by SyrBucco »

I was wondering when this would happen. Craig hasn't performed very well in past promotions but we've got no other options within the system.

I've seen Craig several times when Indy came to town. Bucs were trying him out in RF to make him more than a 1-position player. Ironic that he's back to 1B in this year's audition, which I expect it will be his last, if not successful. Of course I hope he makes it - we need power badly. But I've never seen him go yard vs AAA pitching.

Good to hear that Craig is joining the team, but I wonder who gets dfa or added to 60 day IL to make room for Craig on the 40 man roster. It will be interesting! Just noticed that Sean Poppen is still on the 40 man roster, and he would be my choice to designate.

He got off to a 1 for 20 start for Indy but in the last 2 days he's 5 for 6 with a double and 3 HRs.

guess it would be asking too much for it to be Polanco

Will Craig to Be Brought Up

The current situation is becoming reminiscent of the problem the Bucs encountered in one these past years when anyone who donned catching gear for the team was soon injured.

The current situation also is exacerbated by having only 4 reserves on the bench, one of whom is your back-up catcher who doesn't really have much versatility at other positions.

1st. Moran is your first baseman. Moran is hurt. Try out Frazier. Frazier doesn't produce, DFA. Use Evans as a resserve. Evans is hurt (Evans was also a temporary starter in the OF and at 3rd). Your current roster options are now Gamel (who was just signed and who doesn't really have experience at first), Gonzalez (who you really need for 3rd), and perhaps Perez. And, all of the above are hitting about .200 or less. Perhaps Craig can help navigate the current pinch.

The outfield situation is about the same. Fowler and Alford fail miserably. Polanco has no arm and is no longer a hitter; he really shouldn't be used in the field. Your top reserve in AAA, Jared Oliva, is injured. Thus, you are pursuing the waiver wire for Tom (Rule 5) and folks like Stokes, and playing the likes of Diffo in CF (who has no business being in center.)

Bucs didn't have a lot of depth entering this season, and the current spat of injuries is further testing their ability to field a team that has any chance of winning a game.

And --- it is still only mid-May and the 1/4 mark on the season has yet to be reached.

Lastly, too bad Brault isn't healthy. Perhaps he could have been a 2 way player in a pinch.
