Report to where? The Bucs have 7 days to trade him, and if no deal is made he is released. The Bucs are responsible for his salary except for the minimum if someone picks him up after 7 days.

Concur with Dmetz. This strikes me as the most appropriate decision when it comes to managing the current roster. After a while you can only carry so many pitchers rather than position players.



While I wouldn't expect much, Kontos should have some trade value. But, then again, the Bucs got him on release waivers last year, and it's not like he would be such a vital piece to another team that they simply wait to see if they can sign him after he is released while paying no more than the major league minimum and surrendering no talent.

I'm guessing they've already tried to find a trade partner to no avail. The DFA is their remaining alternative.
