Personally, all things being equal and no injuries, here's how I'd structure the pitching staff:

1. Taillon

2. Williams

3. Kuhl

4. Musgrove

5. Nova

Long relief:

Glasnow

Brault

Set-up:

Feliz

Rodriguez

Santana

Closer:

Vazquez

Yeah, I've seen just about enough of Kontos. I think it's time for a DL stint or a DFA. I don't see any reason to keep an extra pitcher at this point. Particularly one who's kind of redundant now with the emergence of Rodriguez and Santana. I do think we could stand to have a LOOGY on the team though. I've always kind of felt like we've never really had a lefty specialist, at least none that I can remember. And I think that is a mistake playing in a division with Votto, Schwarber, Rizzo, Carpenter, and probably others that I'm missing. I was hoping Romero could be that guy.

I could see putting Kingham into the rotation on a permanent basis as well. He was certainly impressive in his two starts. But, I also think there might be some shiny new toy syndrome going on there. Over the long haul, will he pitch better than, say, Nova? I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. But, he also gave up four runs in four innings last night in AA. So, expecting him to come in and pitch like Scherzer every five days is unrealistic. I like having him as a swingman/6th starter type. Keep him on schedule in the minors, and know that he gets the call if you need a spot starter. Try and deal Nova in the offseason, and Kingham slides into his rotation spot next year.

Six bench guys might never get playing time or is needed.

It is a good problem to have. These young guys deserve a shot too. Glasnow, Brault and Kingham got a shot. Kingham probably deserves more time after his two starts. They are keeping him on a five day rotation too. It will be interesting when Musgrove gets back.

Hurdle isn't doing all of his subbing like seasons past. Maybe the Pirates will shorten the bench and go with more pitchers? Cervelli is even playing day games after night games and Diaz is hitting (meaning, not subbing for Stewart).

It wouldn't be 6 bench guys. They only got to 5 when they replaced Kingham with Osuna. But that leaves 4 starters. When either Kingham or Musgrove returns, the bench would either stay at 5 if they move a pitcher or 4 if they move a bench player.

I'm still holding my breath on Taillon's cut. The situation might resolve itself at least short term anyhow.

IABucFan's list had 11 pitchers. On a 25 man roster, that leaves 14 position players. 8 start, 6 on the bench.

Yeah, you're right. I miscounted. I'd have twelve pitchers, 13 position players. I think 13 pitchers is overkill. So, one more pitcher...if Kingham is up, he needs to be in the rotation. Maybe bump Kuhl to the pen in that case. I still think we're a bit too righty heavy, both in the rotation and in the bullpen. But, I'd rather have a righty that gets guys out than some random dude who happens to throw with his left hand.

I can't see Tailllon missing time due to a cut. I mean, how long does it take for a cut to heal, especially after he pees on his hands?

I thought it was going to be Trevor William's pee?

Haha, ew.

It just seems like the sort of nagging thing that can be more of a pain than it seems like it should be for a pitcher, esp if it keeps coming back open when he throws.

Hurdle announced that Kontos will be removed from his 8th inning role. A committee will be used at this point.

Good job, Hurdle. It should be situational.
