DeJong gets out of it giving up only 1 run. He's at 36 pitches already.

I'll be surprised if he goes 3 today

Let's stroll down Memory Lane with our pal De Jong. His previous start was the near no-hitter in Colorado when he gave up 9 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings and combined with Ponce for an 8 inning, 8 run, 15 hit pitching debacle. Oops, I mean great pitching performance.

De Jong had this quote afterward, ""We made them earn everything they got," De Jong said. "Didn’t walk anybody. They got hits. You have to tip your cap. I thought we made a lot of good pitches."

Silly me, I thought 8 runs on 15 hits was a horrible pitching performance. But according to De Jong, they earned it, nobody walked, they got hits and a lot of good pitches were made. So with only a run and 2 hits in the 1st inning tonight, it looks like De Jong made a lot of good pitches and is on course for another great game. Unless he injures himself patting himself on the back.

Nogowski now 1 for 19- worse than Polanco type numbers.

Now we see miscommunication deep in the outfield. Maybe neither of them could catch it, but sure looked like Gamel should have had it.

I would call his almost no hit 15 hit evening “sublime”. As Burke described, the sensation attributed to the sublime is a “negative pain” which he called delight, and which is distinct from positive pleasure.

In fact, I experienced no positive pleasure.

In tonight's edition of "Fundamental Weakness" Gamel and Reynolds both think the other will catch the ball so neither tries.
