Niekro died from cancer at 81. He was from Blaine, Ohio, near Wheeling. 318 wins.

I never realized just how impressive some of his career stats were. I knew the wins, era, strikeouts...but thecothers- forgot or never knew. Always liked going to see Bucs vs. Braves back then- as long as we won. ;)

I love watching pitchers like him who aren't overpowering but simply make the hitters get themselves out. Guys like Jamie Moyer, Tommy John, Tom Glavine, and Greg Maddux were like PhDs working against grade school children.
