Would You Trade A Starting Pitcher

Post by fjk090852-7 »

These past couple weeks we have seen Musgrove, Kuhl, Keller and Brault pitch extremely well. As the Bucs approached the trading deadline there were rumors that teams were inquiring about their starting pitchers especially Kuhl, Musgrove and Trevor Williams. At this time I would assume that Williams might be available in a trade, but to move one of the other 4 guys it would take a trade that would involve high end pitching prospects, or current big league players with a pedigree as well as at least 3 years of control. Finally if someone wanted Keller it would take the king’s ransom to move him.

Outside of Hayes, Reynolds, and Keller, I think there are no untouchables on this team. With that in mind, BC has to be careful of what BOB will be willing to spend on any contracts that BC may want to acquire in a blockbuster trade.

How did we "earn" the #1 pick in the upcoming draft? By losing two of every three games. Maybe more, depending on today.

Possum is more correct, easily.  Even he might be a little generous.

I think a lot depends upon how BC has evaluated the team. Musgrove and Williams are first to reach free agency. Williams value has to have taken a hit after the past two seasons. The Bucs may want to deal him for a bag of beans if they think he can't bounce back.

If BC thinks he can't put together a good team until at least 2023 or 2024 then everybody is on the table.

On September 21 it looked like the Bucs could lose out for the season so I don't think these last few games should be enough to turn any one into an optimist over what this team can do. A win today makes the Pirates 5-5 over the last ten games.

A blockbuster trade would require Cherington to do SOMETHING to earn his salary.

Musgrove, Williams, Kuhl and Taillon all reach free agency in 2023. Brault in 2024. Keller 2026. Brubaker is on schedule for 2027 if he stays on the MLB roster. Archer will be bought out ($250,000) next year rather than pay the 11 million club option.

I don't think a few recent good games is enough to conclude any of these guys have turned a corner. But we know they won't go out and buy pitching so 5 of these guys will start next year.

Archer is sure to be gone. I think Williams is the most likely to be traded. And possibly Kuhl. I think other teams see Williams as a decent #4 or 5. And Kuhl might be a #5 or a reliever on another team.

Ben Cherington is my hero. Makes Hunter Biden look like a workaholic.

I agree I think Williams will be traded, and I think either Kuhl or Musgrove will get moved. Brault maybe safe since he is the only lefty on the starting staff.
