Trade Rumors

Post by shedman »

Well the trade deadline has passed and Cherington has done nothing. He has successfully kicked the can down the road to the Off Season. Here is a list of excuses and alibis he can use to do nothing during this Off Season:

1. He is an aging veteran on the decline.

2. He is too injury prone.

3. Acquiring him would bring us no closer to a championship.

4. He would never sign to play in Pittsburgh.

5. He would be a clubhouse cancer.

6. Acquiring him would upset the team chemistry.

7. Signing him would lose financial flexibility for a 1 year player.

8.We already have players just as good as him.

9. We are not the Red Sox or Yankees and they would outbid us.

10.He would block this LMG or that LMG from development.

_______

My guess is that he will focus on Excuse and Alibi #3 and #10 for doing nothing in the Off Season.

Ah, yes. Lots of digging into concepts. Lots of going through intellectual challenges. Lots of figuring out how to solve for things. With so much brainiac mumbo jumbo going on, who has time for trades?

I was willing to give him through this trade deadline to begin the real process of improving the organization in general and the major league club in particular.  But if what he has in mind is mental gymnastics, I'm more than a little pissed.  I hope he does something beneficial in these next five minutes or he's lost me.

You don't get it that the Pirates have nothing anyone else wanted ? Kuhl probably garnered some interest . Other than that , they would have to sell embarrassing low on any other trade they made. It would just further exhibit what a bad organization this is. Keep holding your breath as maybe a blockbuster will turn up.

I sort of agree with steve49's post. So what has been the point of BC taking this year to evaluate what he has? It seems ridiculous at this stage. Surely they have a good idea of the 60 players that have rostered between Pittsburgh and Altoona. What else do they need to find out?

The "well oiled machine " is a pretty good joke. The junk yard analogy is funny but it doesn't qualify as a joke.

I'm very much aware that BC has little to trade, and was one reason I was giving him the benefit of the doubt.  But his quote looks more like an excuse to do nothing.  I also realize very little would come back in return for some guys, like Polanco, but he could be given away for free and I'd feel like the Pirates would be much better off.
