Not only has Lyles got more power but his lifetime BA/OPS is .122/.351 compared to Nova's .042/0.83. He's also nearly 4 years younger, an inch shorter and weighs 20 pounds less than Nova. If the Pirates can teach him to pitch left-handed like Candelaria, steal bases like Moreno and pilot the team-charter like Yeager, he'll be the best Pirate FA signing ever!! Great work NH!!!! :D

Quail, you might very well become the next Pirate GM! :D :D :D

Depending on the terms of the contract, Lyles gives the Pirates the additional bullpen arm which they need due to the injury to Santana. I still think they may sign a lefty reliever for the bullpen.

John Heyman is reporting that Lyles deal is one year at $2.05 million. That should not break the budget.

I would suspect the Pirates will give him a look in ST. I will be surprised if he isn't in contention for a rotation spot.

I am surprised that the Pirates have not yet officially announced the signing. Possibly they want to keep the roster spot open because there is another possible free agent signing.

Not according to our dopey GM.

“We are pleased to add Jordan Lyles to our Major League pitching staff,” said GM Neal Huntington in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Jordan has always had a quality pitch arsenal, and given his success after adjusting how he used his pitches during the 2018 season, he will have a legitimate opportunity to earn a spot in our rotation in 2019. We look forward to helping Jordan continue to bridge the gap between potential and performance.”
