Lets hope someone ceases the opportunity and pleasantly surprises us.

No comment on Newman playing SS tonite. Looks like with all the injuries and lousy signings by TBMTIB Clint can have some fun playing his Sunday lineup every day!

Gonzalez hasn't done anything to distinguish himself at SS. Despite the positive spin about Gonzalez from TBMTIB, I'm sure they had some doubts about him. They knew he was seen by Cleveland as a utility player and was obtained--along with 2 pitching prospects--merely for Moroff and Luplow. Doesdn't say much for the trade value Gonzalez had. And he had a poor spring even with the glove. Obviously they felt they needed an upgrade over Newman when they acquired Gonzalez. But I think Newman is their backup plan in case Gonzalez is not adequate. From what I've seen of Gonzalez so far, Newman can't be any worse.

Good 1st inning for Lyles. Walked Votto but got the other 3 batters. Threw 14 pitches. FB topped out at 93.

I can forgive a lot, but not an intentional walk in the second inning.

Lyles gets thru the 2nd on 17 pitches. FB hit 94. Two batters smoked him. One was run down in deep left netter by Shuck. the other was a double to right center. No runs.
