Official Bucs To Get #1 Pick In 2021

MLB set the draft order for next year and the Pirates will get the #1 pick. Will it be Rocker, Leiter on some other player who moves up the draft board ?

Presuming there is a college season, and noone leaps up the board, I don't think they can go wrong with either pitcher.

However, from what I read, Leiter may actually be the better long term choice, and reach the majors quicker. He has 3 MLB ready pitches, a developing change, and a smooth, repeatable delivery that scouts love.

I have read the same report about Leiter, but I think the consensus from the fan base is to select Rocker. I think either Rocker or Leiter will be a great choice and I hope whoever they pick will avoid any arm injuries.

I agree, either one would be great, The history of arm trouble with these young pitchers is pretty daunting, isn't it?.

The allocation for the #1 pick is $ 8,415, 300. I am sure it will take the full amount to sign whomever the Bucs pick.

They will need to pick somebody who is "signable" in the first round so that they can save some financial flexibility for the later rounds.

The Pirates will get the player they want. The question is whether the new BC regime will develop that player's potential instead of merely suffering his growing pains and then watching him become a stud as soon as he goes to another team.

That will be a big test for the BC regime. Development of young players. We've seen 10+ years of players arriving in Pittsburgh that were under-developed, and in some cases, not really able to play smart baseball. That has to change for the Bucs to move forward and be relevant.

When you see young players arriving in rival cities like St. Louis, Atlanta, etc., MLB ready when they come up, it is pretty glaring deficiency.

Making it even worse? Being MLB with the Braves and Cards is hard.

Being MLB ready for the Bucs is a little easier.

I sure hope there is a college season in 2021 so the Pirates get to scout both Rocker and Jack Leiter to determine which of the two pitchers should be there choice. At this time the consensus is that Rocker is the #1 choice, but there are several months before the draft and Leiter or another player could climb to #1.
