Good news for people living within range of a former Penn League team -- https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/304 ... -prospects

Possum and I will be able to scout the top prospects. This should put some pressure on those ML scouts.

It's nice to have it in the region: the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the State College Spikes, the Trenton Thunder, the West Virginia Black Bears and the Williamsport Crosscutters. Supposed to add a sixth team. I'm more likely to go to one of these games than an MLB game.

Particularly this year, when the Bucs have a high pick. This is a great outcome from what sounded originally like a bleak turn of events.

This sounds very interesting because you can see some of the top players which would be chosen in the upcoming MLB Draft. Guys like Rocker, and Leiter I assume will be playing in this league.

I would imagine so. MLB's thought was to have the top prospects concentrated in one area to facilitate scouting, rather than having to travel all over to see a player.

This is the best Christmas present I could get! Being able to drive to Morgantown where the BlackBears play and be treated by not just the team's games but the entire staff from the GM down to the kids who hand out the program books, drive the handicapped golf cart up the left-field hill to the gate and the greetings we get from the ushers. It will also be great to see some of the best prospects from around the country playing to show the scouts what they have. Let's go BlackBears! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

One article I read said ticket prices wouldn't change. It's incredible to see a game and have a hot dog without having to refinance the house. I'm really looking forward to the summer.

Pirates Prospects is speculating that the top prospects won't go so they don't hurt their draft status with a bad showing. Even if that's true, it should be some good talent to watch. Go Black Bears!

This is interesting, and yet another way MLB is cutting costs and a way for them to avoid paying fair wages.

How do you think this will put pressure on the scouts? They will have centralized locations to watch the players instead of having to travel all over to find them. I suppose that will still be a thing for most teams, since there will be players not in the league.

This also seems to be an effort for MLB to force HS players into the college. To participate in this league, players will have to give up their college eligibility. This also eliminates any leverage players would have in negotiations, which I am sure is also MLB plan.

Which does bring up the question of who would play in this league? I doubt most HS players or JC players would participate, unless they are 100% sure they are going pro. Obviously top tier college players will not all be in, since their teams could still be playing. Could be a big help for smaller college players and seniors. Of course can also hurt players that might have been drafted without it if they play terrible.

Seems like the way things go in todays world the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I'm not a fan of socialism but seems the overpaid stars should give back to the game somehow. There needs to be a more healthy balance. Owners should concentrate more on younger players and less on the multi million dollar players.
