Is there anything we want on the Orioles? They seem to be jettisoning the entire roster (which is reasonable of them I guess considering).
Ripken and Brooks R would look good on the left side of the infield.

I was thinking more of bolstering the staff.

Very different races developing between the AL and NL this year. Six teams in contention for five spots in the AL, and four of the six are all but locks at this point.
Eight teams currently within six games of the WC in the NL, plus the three division leaders. Really only four teams in the NL are "out of it."

yeah, the entire AL is either all-time-great or all-time-sucky
it's still amazing to me that the Orioles have not yet won 30 games, a week after the ASB. They are 44 games below .500. They are worse than the Red Sox are good.

I'm gonna laugh when a rejuvenated Felix Hernandez leads the Mariners to the World Series.

I agree an upgrade at ss would be big but I am still fixated on trying to get an ace. I think one really good pitcher who could push Taillon to a 2, and everyone else down one slot would be a huge addition. Pitching usually wins in the playoffs. If DeGrom isn't available, who else is out there that we could get?
DeGrom is available. That is abundantly clear. He is the best asset they have to deal. But going after DeGrom isn't in this front office's MO. They are more apt to go after a Steven Matz type from the Mets.
I'm convinced our acquisition will be more of a reclamation project than someone that is good at the moment. Happ was a reclamation project when we got him. He wasn't good for three or four years.
Fiers is a guy I'd consider as a guy the Pirates will go after or have interest in.

A's breathing down their necks right now - they need Felix to rejuvenate!
I'm not posting much anymore, but reading a little. It's always good to see your posts Iowa. Glad you're back for the stretch run (and sure glad it's getting interesting for us!).

Eovaldi dealt to the red Sox for Jalen Beeks.
Mr Beeks left his career with Randolph and Mortimer Duke after the frozen concetrated orangejuice scandal and now projects to be a long bullpen option.

How'd he ever get out of that gorilla costume?
Beeks doesn't seem like much of a cost. I'm supposing that a trade of Nova would generate little value. Not that the Bucs are trading anyone now.

This is exactly where I am, and why I still think they should pursue Keuchel or Corbin this offseason.
This Pirates team is not as far away from contention as we might believe, either this year or in the future. They have a bunch of good, young players at the MLB level, six players on FanGraphs’ midseason prospect list, and they should have a boatload of payroll room in the offseason. The Pirates don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt given their past inaction, but letting the season play out might be the right call, although a much bigger investment needs to be made in next year’s team.
