yeah, Wells never had it except for one season and Jason Schmidt didn't really do much until he was traded.

And we all know how this story will end: after a few more years of failure, Keller will be included in a trade to another team, whereas he'll be reeducated and become a steady performer who helps his new team reach the World Series.

The Pirates Fan's Lament: We all know when Keller's Talent IS SURE to turn up. (Everyone here can probably write the next sentence.) (((
Doc just did!

Unless the long range plan is fifth starter or long relief, no.

Keller’s ERA jumps to almost 8.0.
The worse part was listening to the Reds dugout yucking it up. Sounded like a beer league softball team.
I just don't see where he has ace stuff. Even when he's effective, he's not overpowering or dominating. He has some nice 5 inning games and gets pummeled in the rest. He had those 2 nice games at the end of last year after the preceding 2 had been awful. In those last 2 games last year he pitched a total of 11 no-hit innings but walked 8 in that time. One way to prevent hits to to walk everyone.
He didn't dominate in AAA either with a 3.98 ERA and almost a hit per inning. I think the Pirates are waiting on talent that isn't there.
I'm starting to think that NH and company had to hype somebody and they chose Keller and it looks like they should have selected Brubaker.
I think you are right. After seeing Cole reach his expected level only after leaving the team and completely missing on Glasnow, they needed to claim they had another stud in the pipeline. Keller was the most likely candidate since he did well prior to reaching AAA. But there's been nothing about his AAA or MLB production to suggest he is special.
Yes, yes, yes, anyone could see that Glasnow had loads of talent and was just thrown to the sharks without any support. Cole was another with loads of talent anyone could see it, the same with J. Schmidt. But for the life of me I don't seem anything close to that with Keller. Get him in the BP and quit trying to make something out of him he is not.

Wells is a good example. Anther guy we were supposed to wait forever for him to get good. But I do remember that home run he hit at PNC over the hedges in CF.

Maybe it's time to put Evans on the mound again.
