Good post. This decision would seem to be a clear sign that the team is more concerned about "rotating" or "resting" or "reviving" players than it is about WINNING GAMES.

No one in their right mind at this point can honestly believe that playing Polanco over Meadows gives the Pirates a better chance of winning.

Well, the game's over and it's still just the 1st inning. I guess Hurdle knew what he was doing. Let's see what Polanco can do. >:(

Don't be so sure. There will be someone along shortly or blogging shortly about how the fans are stupid yinzers and are overreacting to just " a random day off".

Polanco had a very good night!  Whoa.   ended up being a good decision to play him last night.    That means the past 4 weeks were ok.

This outfield rotation is a good idea!  Using Vasquez this frequently even in the face of possible injury is a good idea!

Are we in the midst of another Hurdle nosedive?   our skipper has shown a great penchant over the years for taking a team that is performing "OK" for months... and then nosediving it through Godzilla-sized losing streaks

Good to see Polanco have a good game. If he's going to play, he better produce.

IMHO, Hurdle is simply not a good manager. His managing tendencies run contrary to getting the most out of his team. When he implements something that doesn't work, he tends to stay with it far too long in hopes bad will turn to good regardless of how many games are lost in the meantime or even if the problem will ever resolve at all. To his credit, he's been more fast acting with the BP problems this year. But how many games were lost last season because he was reluctant to relieve a consistently struggling Watson of closer duties? And how long did he leave an unproductive Cutch in the #3 spot last year?

This year we had a completely unproductive Polanco hitting 2nd for 42 of his first 46 games. And now Hurdle won't commit to his 3 best OFers. Bell seemed like the ideal #4 hitter to begin the season. But he has not produced. His stats are very similar to Mercer's and no one wants Mercer batting 4th. Hurdle likes to rest players. Even before and after off days. Even in key series. Because it gives him a chance to find more ABs for non hitters like Rodriguez. Everybody gets to play. It keeps the parents happy. Ice cream after the game. Participation trophies for everyone!

This year was going differently. The starters were playing more, the bench was not compared to season's past. Hurdle just started playing the bench more. The closer failing has just happened.

I was impressed with Hurdle before the Marte injury. I don't know what has changed in his mind. The rotation is shaping up player wise, a new rookie has been a sensation, and the team is healthy with no starters on the disabled list. This should be easy for Hurdle. Unless guys are secretly banged up, I don't understand his thought process as of late.
