It's officially time to move Polanco to cleanup, I'd love to see him come up with 2 or 3 on base anytime. I realize it's tricky to mess with success but man he needs to be up with guys in front of him. Can you imagine what a pitcher would be thinking with him lurking on deck. Move Bell batting 3rd and he should see some real good pitches to hit.

Anyway probably won't happen but man I'd be tempted.

The Pirates have 17 games left this month 3 at Miami, 4 at Philly, 1 at Washington to close out of the month. And have 9 home games 3 with the Rockies, 3 with the Tigers, and 3 with the Cardinals. Even if the Pirates manage to go something like 9-8 or 10-7 in this stretch which is definitely doable it will put them at either 19-10 or 18-11 to close out this month. So we’ll see what happens but right now looking at that schedule there is no reason not to believe the Pirates can’t win a lot of these remaining series they have left in April and go into May anywhere from 6-10 games over .500 and in 1st place.

I have no idea how the end of the year will play out (my feeling is we'll drop off) but it's refreshing to have a GOOD start. Seems that even if our really good seasons recently the Aprils have been killers.

In 2013, they went 15-12 in April.

In 2015, they went 12-10 in April.

In 2014, they were 10-16 after April.

I agree with you. It seems they never get off to a good start. This weaker schedule could get them a big jump heading into May.

honestly without going back and looking at the numbers I would have guessed it was worse than that.

Looking at the schedule I just put up I’d prob be pretty disappointed if the Pirates didn’t do at worst 9-8 or better in these next 17 games to close out April. If they keep hitting the ball similar to the way they been doing it so far these first two weeks there is no doubt at all that they will be 18-11 or better to start the month of May.

Me too.

Before 2013, the last time they had a winning record in April was 2009. Before that, it was 2002. Their big bats always seemed to get off to a slow start (McCutchen, LaRoche). This year, they are hitting. They need to keep it going, don't get comfortable.

if we went just .500 the rest of the year, we'd win 84 games and beat most peoples expectations.

if we kept winning at the current rate we'd win 120. but that doesn't seem very likely.

I remember 2002. Bucs started 12-5. I think they wound up losing 100 games that year. But this year seems different. IIRC, they had separate five and six game winning streaks to start the year in 2002. That start never had the feeling that it could be sustainable. This year though, does. That by no means means that they WILL sustain it. However, I think there are enough pieces throughout the lineup to give it punch. I think the rotation is better than expected.

On that note, how about Trevor Williams? I can’t say enough good things about that man. I thought it fitting that he was going against Hendricks yesterday, because I think he can be every bit as good as Hendricks is. I still can’t believe we essentially traded Jim Benedict for him.
