Ouch - bases loaded, Stallings take strike 3 right down the middle.

What looked like it could be Keller's first back-to back good starts this season has deteriorated into his usual bad/good pattern.

1. Bad 3 IP 3 R

2. Good 5 IP 1 R

3. Bad 3.1 IP 7 R

4. Good 5 IP 2 R

5. Bad 2.1 IP 4 R

6. Good 5.2 IP 0 R

7. (Tonight) 3.1 IP 5 Rs and counting

I just basically made the same post lol
Why aren't we managing the team?
Keller gets the early hook!

Yep. >:(

4th inning: 30 pitches. 1 out. 4 runs. Lots of hits and walks and the bases are left full for Underwood.

YIKES! :o

Make that 6 runs in the 4th.

Keller’s ERA jumps to almost 8.0.

The worse part was listening to the Reds dugout yucking it up. Sounded like a beer league softball team.

I just don't see where he has ace stuff. Even when he's effective, he's not overpowering or dominating. He has some nice 5 inning games and gets pummeled in the rest. He had those 2 nice games at the end of last year after the preceding 2 had been awful. In those last 2 games last year he pitched a total of 11 no-hit innings but walked 8 in that time. One way to prevent hits to to walk everyone.

He didn't dominate in AAA either with a 3.98 ERA and almost a hit per inning. I think the Pirates are waiting on talent that isn't there.

I'm starting to think that NH and company had to hype somebody and they chose Keller and it looks like they should have selected Brubaker.

I think you are right. After seeing Cole reach his expected level only after leaving the team and completely missing on Glasnow, they needed to claim they had another stud in the pipeline. Keller was the most likely candidate since he did well prior to reaching AAA. But there's been nothing about his AAA or MLB production to suggest he is special.

I'm old enough to remember Kip Wells, and he's the first guy I think of when I think of Keller. Was hyped to have "the talent," but just didn't have it. When there's so little of it, we tend to look for that silver lining anywhere. Good game/not so good game. I can't see him being in the long-range plans. What say you?
