With Contreras not available, why option Wilson back to AAA?

I am confused.

I still don’t understand why Contreras would be making a couple of spot starts in Indy. Makes no sense at all

I don't think he'll pitch more than a couple innings, if at all.

I don't think he'll pitch more than a couple innings, if at all.

They rest him now and then he does some innings at AAA and they go from there. He may or may not see many innings the rest of the season. It is all because they do not want to screw up his arm with a large increase in IP.
