Hurdle said Freese had a forearm contusion which is why they didn’t use him today and said he got it on Friday. Funny he was good enough last night to hit an opposite field Homerun. So not so sure I am buying this explanation.

Oh I know lol. What a bunch of baloney  ::).  A bruise on his forearm that's a couple days old.   So bad that he made a couple of big defensive plays yesterday as well as parked one into the right field stands.

Whatever.  It doesn't matter. It's just crazy the amount of needless BS that's peddled.

I can't believe that Cal Ripkin played only 17 years ago and these turkeys aren't playing 5 straight.

Well we got Too Cheap Nutting to mend his ways a bit and NH to grow some cahones now we need to get a new brain for Hurdle. Is there a Dr. Frankenstein in the house. ;D

Really brutal loss. The Luplow DP inning-killer was the decisive moment.

And losing 2 of 3 at home to the Cards is a momentum killer.

And now the real challenge begins. This road trip is going to be brutal, and could be the make-or-break for the season.

3 at Colo. (CANNOT get swept and really need 2).

4 at SF (Must get at least 2)

2 at Minn. (Must get 1)

Pirates absolutely need to find a way to go 5-4 on this trip ... and I'm not sure even that will be good enough to hang around the race.

They ultimately need another long winning streak or at least an 8 of 9 or 10 of 12 kind of stretch.

This road trip will be a tough place to start.

Time for the team to really step up and win some big road games.

No doubt a disappointing weekend results-wise. But in the bigger picture, this week may represent a real turning point. Finally TBMTIB invested in a serious trade, for premium talent, to improve the big league team. Hopefully this wasn't a one-off, and it is a sign of more advancements to come....including better field management. As for now, we just clear one Hurdle at a time.

What’s really annoying is that the guy Hurdle pitched last night in a tie game in the 5th inning after the Bucs battled back so hard down 4-1 to tie it at 4-4 got sent back down to AAA 12 hours later. It goes to show you that they don’t think much of McRae if they would do this to him that quickly, and yet Hurdle has no problem using him in a big time situation in early August with 50 games left in a tie game against a division rival you are neck and neck with fighting for a postseason spot with. These are the things I’m talking about with Hurdle that absolutely cannot happen and yet they always do and still do and he has no problem with it at all.

They asked him before the game why he went to McRae instead of somebody else and he talked about todays game wanting to have all the main guys in the pen available. That’s all good Clint but how about worrying about winning the damn game you’re playing the same night and not the game tomorrow. This is the most frustrated I have been with Hurdle in the last few years these last two games with the Cardinals they lost. Absolutely brutal managing that I truly believe costs the Pirates both today and last nights games.

yeah, the way it worked out the pen was used today when the team was a run behind. You just can't put your worst reliever in a tie game. that is just asking for trouble and that is what happened.

This is spot on exactly what is going on with Hurdle. Absolutely had to win that second game or go down with your very best. Instead we put in our worst option after coming back from a 3 run deficit to tie it. This happens time and time again just like the Anderson relief appearance before the all star game just got luck with that one. You can't pull bone head moves like this and expect to compete for a title. Hurdle is satisfied with winning a few and losing a few just okay with it, and Matheney gets fired for being at .500 after never managing a below .500 team and winning several playoff games the last 5 or 6 years. Both these teams looked bad this series but we had the worst moves by far and that's what cost us the series. Why can't we have a competent manager that's not to much to ask for.

Most of us were incredulous when NH and CH received 4 year extensions this year. At least NH made some good moves last week. But Hurdle was bad last year and this year has taken incompetence to a higher level. We are now at the point where even good GM decisions are negated by a mgr who isn't even invested in winning. And he's signed for 3 more years. And Nutting isn't about to pay off that contract while also paying someone else to manage the team. The only hope is that Hurdle could be elevated to some FO job while bringing in someone actually capable of managing a MLB team. As a Pirate fan I'm embarrassed by the presence of Hurdle "leading" this team (to the rear). Take him out of the dugout, give him some harmless job in the org and get him the psychological counseling he so desperately needs.
