Bucs have claimed pitcher Sean Poppen from Twins. They have dfa Riddle.

maybe JT will come back as a non-roster player in the spring so evaluation can continue.

Now we're talking. It's about time Cherington got off his backside and started building this roster with one, among many, of those quality players who are so easy to acquire. We're one step closer to that title we all crave.

Just another example of how strangely this team is run. They seemed obsessed with Riddle. In his career he has never shown an ability to hit. For the Pirates he batted .149. Yet when he was added to the roster he started 17 of the team's remaining 48 games--more than a third of those games.



Right up to the end he started 4 of the last 8 games. And then they immediately DFA him. They had to know by the last week that he was not in their future plans if they DFA'd him this quickly. So why did they continue to play him so much? He even had a hit in each of his last 2 games. So if they were going to DFA him immediately after the season regardless of whether he used those last few games to show he could get hits, why was he playing?

maybe BC knew it but didn't tell Shelton that Riddle would be first to go. I'm a little surprised they didn't drop a pitcher.

This is the first guy to go. They have many players on the IL which need to be added to the 40 man roster over the next few weeks.

I figure there are 8 players now on the IL which need to be added to the 40 man roster. My guess are the following: Taillon, Burdi, Feliz, Holmes, Maile, Kramer, Alford, and Evans. Players like Kela, Holland and Murphy will declare free agency so that opens up 3 spots.

First, good to hear that Riddle has been DFA'd, but it is odd that he continued to play after Oliva was added to the roster. 'Veteranoisity' is hard for most manager's too walk away from.



Also, if roster space is needed, why continue to carry Kramer and Burdi.



Kramer may have been a 1st round draft pick, but he has not demonstrated that he is ready for the Majors, and he is getting a bit older now. BC should not have any loyalty to NH prospects who likely do not have much future.



With respect to Burdi, he has shown promise in the very limited appearances he has made with the team. Unfortunately, he is again seriously injured and his future is much in doubt. I do not believe he is worth the roster space IF management identifies a better option.



On the list of 8 players in the previous post, Tallion, Holmes and Alford should be locks to be added, and Evans likely warrants protection after his initial showing this year, but both Maile and Feliz should not be certain to remain on the roster through the start of spring training if better options are identified.
