The Pirates are tied for fourth in the NL in home runs, and second in slugging.

I know its still early May and that he tailed off as the season unfolded last year, but based on his performance to date, I was really wrong when I suggested that the Bucs not pursue Dickerson.

With the exception of his arm, he has been a joy to watch. Decent discipline at the plate, good line drive power, can hit to all fields, has some real power, chocks up on the bat, heady base-runner, and he makes the plays defensively that he should make. Every aspect of his play illustrates that he is a professional ballplayer. Sure would be great if he could continue his current success through-out the year.

Yeah, he and Cervelli both ripping it has got to be the difference between now and last season's offense (which got left behind in the new "Home Run Era").

Do people still think the Pirates will be second to last (to the Marlins) in HRs this year? Or in the bottom five of runs scored?

The team home runs were discussed here ("Martinez to Boston" thread) with a few posters projecting HR numbers. I am still sticking to my prediction that the Marlins will be last.

Yeah, I don't know. I don't think Cevelli will keep up this pace, but going the other way I don't think Bell will either.

As I watched yesterday and got a close up of Cervelli, I thought he looked noticeably more fit in his face and body. I hope that is a piece of his hitting because I would think that would make this more sustainable. I haven't seen any articles on it so maybe I didn't see what I thought I saw but I thought his face looked thinner and his upper body a bit less stout.

I was one that said we would only finish ahead of the Marlins. I still don't believe they will keep up this pace, but with that said I don't think they finish next to last anymore. The Reds, Mets, Padres and Marlins will finish behind the Pirates.

The bench power has been impressive. They have 12 HRs (six players). Frazier just hit his first as a regular. There have been a some random spot starts that the bench has hit a HR.

Rodriguez has 3 in 51 at bats

Freese has 3 in 48 at bats

Diaz has 2 in 39 at bats

Moroff has 1 in 24 at bats

Osuna has 1 in 4 at bats

Frazier has 2 in 96 at bats (not sure how many at bats as a pure back up player)

This offense would really be cranking right now if Frazier would be a little more productive.

Yes, I am very disappointed with Frazier overall. I thought he could handle second base and lead off. He is doing neither well. His offensive numbers aren't that far off from Harrison, but not fair to Harrison with his small(er) sample size.
