Rookie status

Post by psuinpgh21 »

Not that he has been a prospect due to his age, Richard Rodriguez will lose his rookie status soon. His 24 games with the Bucs and 5 previous games put him one shy of the 30 limit for a rookie reliever.

No surprise, Austin Meadows will also soon lose his rookie status. The limit is 130 at bats (not plate appearances) and he currently has 110.

The other rookie currently on the roster is 46 year old catcher Jacob Stallings. He may actually have enough service time to no longer be considered a rookie, but has only 32 at bats.

At AAA you have Luplow and Bostick, who have experience, but are unlikely to get enough AB this year to lose their rookie status, if they even reach the Bucs. And Casey Sadler and Damien Magnifico, who would need some sort of injury calamity to even make it to the 40 man, have big league experience.

But you also have Nick Kingham, who has pitched 35.1 innings in the bigs. 15 more and he loses his rookie status. I think the Bucs are more concerned with him losing his super-2 status than him actually pitching in the bigs where he belongs right now.

Sorry, forgot Clay Holmes, 2 appearances/4 IP- real outside shot at losing his rookie-ness, but if he continues to pitch well they need someone who can get outs.

So far this year Moroff, Dovydas, Santana, Moran and Crick (Creek?) have lost their rookie status.
