If Holmes wins tonight and pitches well I will agree with it. I see no reason at this point to mess up a rotation that has the best ERA in baseball the last month or so.

Does this mean he is not a PTBNL?

If Holmes pitches well tonight they will have dodged the bullet they fired at their own foot. Why are they taking this chance? There are 4 days off in August. They were also off on 7/30, which gives them 5 days off in a 5 week period. There are only 2 times this month when they have to go thru the rotation twice in a row. And now they are using a AAA pitcher to avoid one of those times. This is the kind of move that is normally made during a long stretch of games without a day off. But that's not the case. I hope this doesn't backfire. But Hurdle has always put rest above winning and never seems too concerned if they don't win.

I think I've said this before, but I love Freese's home run trot. He's almost sprinting, he looks like he has somewhere to be.

Still could. Not allowed to be on the 25 at the time of the trade.

He was on the 40 at the time of the trade

Actually no. He can't be on the roster between the time the trade is announced and when it is completed (which won't be until the PTBNL is sent). I was thinking Holmes could be that guy but not now. So I hope it's not Tucker, Newman or Kramer.

I agree with Freddy and Bobster on this one.

I'm all for making this kind of move with Holmes if the Pirates were in a stretch of 21 games in 20 days, or a stretch of multiple double-headers.

But the staff is red-hot right now AND the schedule is aleady giving them multiple days off during this stretch, which allows them all to push back a start and get an extra day.

Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Seems like the Pirates are over-thinking this.

I think the PTBN is either Baz, Tucker, Newman or Kramer.

I'm not sure. MLB says 25 man at the time of the trade. MLB trade rumors says cannot be on the 25 at any point before the trade finalizes.

So if we provided a list of players on the 40, the trade couldn't finalize until after the waiver deadline ends, or they would need to pass through waivers. While at the same time, we suppsedly couldn't call up any on the list to fill in for injury.

Seems if a team provides a list of players on the 40, they're making it tough on themselves
