Nutting could still drop 35 mil a year to Machado and not be anywhere near the top payrolls in baseball. Sad.

One question about this payroll stuff. Say the Bucs sign Machado for #30 mil a year. With cheapskate Nutting pull the purse strings what does that mean to the good Bucs players that will become FAs or have salary increases due to arbitration in the future? With all the money going to Machado I would bet that Nutting will not spend on anything else.

Besides, does Machado put is over the top and make us an instant top contender not just for the NL Central but the whole WS shebang? Not in the least. I pass on Machado and Harper and go after some other top line FA or 2 first.

I think they could offer a jillion brazillion dollars to machado and he would not come here. But him aside, I fully expect them to get a SS. I also want a SP but I get the impression that is not going to happen.

Good article. Wilbur factually presents what most of us have believed all along. His conclusion says it all.

Geez --- That conclusion really makes me feel really giddy about the upcoming season.

I feel myself trending toward being a more frequent management basher.

It's not a management thing. It's a ownership thing. This all lies on Bob Nutting and the others in the investment group. This article is just another piece that articulates that distinction.
