The Pirates are not good at scoring runs.

This game was over the instant it was 1-0 in the second.

And by the way I thought that White Sox double down the line was foul. But it really doesn't matter because the Pirates aren't scoring.

Polanco's hot streak officially over as he goes hitless in three at bats with two strikeouts. What a predicament he's causing. He's not good enough to play, it's unlikely any team would be willing to trade for him, and he's owed oodles of money for the next few years. I hope this is the straw that makes Nutting decide to sell.

If it's a back-broken camel, it still won't make BOB give up his golden goose.

All it will do is cause him to never pay any player, and we'll be watching LMGs go hitless the rest of our days.

Most of what he's owed comes with a team option. He is guaranteed 11.6 million in 2021.

In 2022 it's 12.5 or a 3M buyout.

In 2023 it's 13.5 or a 1M buyout.

So if a free spending team is willing to take a chance on him it will cost a minimum of 14.6 for 1 year or 25.1 for 2 years as opposed to 37.6 for 3 years. Hard to imagine anyone wanting him even for the minimum for 14.6 for a year. But maybe some stupid team that spends oodles of money would take a flyer on him for a year. Possibly in awareness that some hyped players disappoint with the Pirates but blossom when they go elsewhere.

Just one team with a good chance to make the playoffs where two or three of its outfielders all stub their big toes and are lost indefinitely is all we need.  That can happen, right?

As for that contract, I'm sure the Pirates never expected to pay all of it, that they'd be dealing Polanco away with a couple of years left on it after he had a very nice career here. He really screwed up that plan, with both his poor performance and his injuries. Nutting looking at that contract today must be doing a slow burn. What are the chances he'll agree to make that kind of offer again?

Per the Trib:

“You tip your hat to a lineup like that,” Williams said.

Williams allowed 8 runs in 6 innings. The White Sox have played 31 runs and opposing pitchers did NOT give up 8 runs in 6 innings to that lineup in 29 of them. It had happened only once in addition to Williams' pathetic performance and even worse excuse yesterday.

Maybe instead of tipping his hat to the other team to justify his own poor performance he should realize that other pitchers don't simply conceded that they won't get the White Sox hitters out and that the game does not have to be lost as soon as the lineups are exchanged.

Actually, yes it does. Look at our lineup.
