Cahill is a great pick up by Cherington. With pick ups like Cahill and Todd Frazier, Ben is starting to look like a real GM. Keep up the good work Ben.

Why not!
Bucs need arms. He clearly is not an elite arm, but he has faced a whole bunch more major league hitters than anyone else on the roster. If he is successful, the Bucs are clear winners even if he turns out to be little more than trade bait. And if he fails, 1.5 mil is not much of a risk, particularly with how low the payroll is.
Hopefully this move yields some rewards.

Cederlind's injury may have more to do with the signing of Cahill than an initial assessment that the Bucs needed more pitching.
